I've Lost my Panamanian Identity Card (Cedula), now what?

What is a Panamanian cedula?

The cedula is the identification document you receive once your residence has been approved. For most foreign residents this is the e-cedula. In case you lost yours, you can request a duplicate of your issued identity card on the website of the Tribunal Electoral. 

What does the Tribunal Electoral in Panama do?

The Tribunal Electoral (TE) of Panama is in charge of civil registration, identification, certification of civil status, and holding of elections in the Republic of Panama.

The Tribunal Electoral is made up of three magistrates who are appointed in a staggered manner for a period of ten years. The appointments are made by each of the three state bodies, in accordance with the Political Constitution; one represents the National Assembly, one represents the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ), and one represents the Executive Branch.

Location of the Tribunal Electoral in Panama

The Tribunal Electoral is located all over Panama, with its primary office in Panama City. If you lost your identity card you can easily request a new one online and pick it up at your preferred location. 

How do I request a duplicate of my issued identity card?

  1. Visit the website of the Tribunal Electoral by clicking here.  
  2. Submit your personal identification number. 
  3. Enter your personal information including first name, last name, and date of birth. 
  4. Select if your card has been stolen or lost. 
  5. Lastly, select your preferred office location and pay the fee for the request of your new card, which is about 65$.

Once you completed the above process you can follow the process of your cedula via Donde Esta Mi Cedula, click here. Your cedula will be ready within 3 - 5 work days. When ready for pickup, you will be notified by email or phone.

I am currently not in Panama, can someone pick up my cedula for me?

Yes, with a written notice (poder) in Spanish, stamped by a local notary someone else can pick up your cedula for you.
