Whether you've misplaced your Panamanian driver's license or it's time for a renewal, there's no need to worry! Panama has introduced a seamless online process to simplify these necessary procedures. Allow me to guide you through the steps in this handy blog post:

Renewing Your Panamanian Driver's License Online

  1. Visit Setracen's Website: To initiate the renewal process, access the Setracen website by going to https://www.sertracen.com.pa/.

  2. Select the Appropriate Banner: On the Setracen website's homepage, look for the banner that reads "REALIZA TU SOLICITUD DE RENOVACIÓN O DUPLICADO O SOLICITUD DE CITA" and click on it. This will take you to the online platform.

  3. Explore the Platform: Within Setracen's online platform, you'll find options such as "Renew or duplicate your license," "Set an appointment," and "Verify infractions and/or tickets."

  4. Prepare the Necessary Documents: To successfully renew your license, you'll need either a cédula or a passport with permanent/indefinite residency status. Your renewed license will be valid for four (4) years from the issuance notification.

If you possess a passport with temporary/defined/provisional residency status, your license's validity will be contingent upon the expiration date of your migration card or four (4) years, whichever comes first, starting from the issuance notification.

  1. Complete the Vision and Hearing Test: Once you have successfully submitted your application online, you will be prompted to complete a vision and hearing test. Passing this test is essential to proceed with the renewal process.

  2. Choose a Pickup Location: After passing the tests, you will have the option to select a pickup location for your new driver's license.

  3. Wait for Notification: Typically, it takes between 1 to 3 days for your renewed license to be ready for pickup. You will receive an email notification once it's ready.

  4. Pick Up Your New License: To retrieve your new driver's license, you will need to bring your expired license and your e-cédula. At the pickup location, you'll undergo a quick process, including a few signatures, and then you'll receive your brand-new license.

Duplicating a Lost Panamanian Driver's License

If you've lost your Panamanian driver's license and need a duplicate, here's what you need to know:

  • If your current driver's license is scheduled to expire on a specific date, such as December 13, 2023, the duplicate license you obtain will also be valid until that same date. If you are interested in renewing your license instead, please refer to the steps mentioned above.
  • During the administrative review process, your application will be carefully examined. It's important to note that there are certain exceptions to the validity of your license. For instance, if your migration card has an expiration date that falls before your driver's license or if you have an active payment arrangement, the duration of your license may be affected. Rest assured, the online renewal or duplication process will guide you through these considerations to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience.

Regardless of whether you need to renew or duplicate your Panamanian driver's license, the process is hassle-free and can be conveniently completed online. By following these simple steps, you can save valuable time and effort, ensuring that you can continue driving legally and safely on the roads of Panama.
